Comparative study on the effect of nata de coco spent liquor on the germination of selected agricultural seeds
1994
Estacio, R.L.S. (Southern Mindanao Univ., Kabacan, Cotabato (Philippines))
The seeds used were: corn (Zea mays L.), mungbean (Phaseolus aureus Roxb.), pechay (Brassica chinensis Linn.), rice (Oryza sativa L.) and tomato (Lycopersicon lycopersicum (L.) Karsten). The treatment used were: 20, 15, 10 and 5 percent concentration of NCSL [nata de coco spent liqour] diluted with tap water and a control was also prepared. In each treatment, 10 seeds of each kind were placed in each petri dish lined with filter paper. Each kind of seed in a treatment was replicated three times. The treatments were applied to the seeds in each dish using a pipettor with 5 ml. After two trials, it was found that NCSL gave the seeds low germination number except for corn, rice, and tomato. It was also found that corn has the highest resistance to NCSL since it has high germination number in the highest concentration (20 percent). Pechay, on the other hand, has the highest susceptibility to NCSL followed by mungbean
