Evaluation of promising microbial antagonists against Aspergillus infection and aflatoxin formation in corn
1994
Gamolo, A.C. Jr.
Potential microbial antagonists selected from the in vitro test such as isolates: (101, 104, 307, 308, 311, 313, 315, 335, and 341) were further evaluated for their antagonistic effect against Aspergillus flavus growth and aflatoxin production in corn. Corn kernels with 15-16 percent moisture content and previously tested and found least infected of Aspergillus flavus (10 percent kernel infection) and negative of aflatoxin content were used. Based on two samplings, results showed that 2 out of 10 microbial isolates showed antagonistic effect against A. flavus growth. The results of the study using microbial isolates are promising and worthwhile to continue verifying and piloting the significant findings
