Screening of potential microbial antagonists against Aspergillus flavus and aflatoxin production in corn
1994
de Leon, N.M.
Promising microbial isolates (346, 348, 350, 351, 355, 358, 361, 512, 515, and Bacillus megaterium) selected in in vitro test were further investigated for their efficacy against Aspergillus flavus growth and aflatoxin content in corn. Philippine Seed Board recommended varieties of mature corns (IPB var. 4) with 15-16 percent moisture content and previously tested and found least infected with Aspergillus (10 percent kernel infection) and found negative for aflatoxin content were used in the study. Based on the two sampling results, two out of ten microbial isolates showed antagonistic/inhibitory activity against Aspergillus growth. They were 351 and 355. These results using the potential microbial isolates are promising and seem worthwhile to continue on verifying the significant result considering the various factors affecting Aspergillus growth and aflatoxin production
