1992
Salomes, F.M. | Esturas, R.T. (WESMIARC, Ipil, Zamboanga del Sur (Philippines))
Promising corn hybrids and open-pollinated varieties were tested under Castilla clay-loam soil at Ipil Experiment Station, Ipil, Zamboanga del Sur [Philippines], crop year 1989-1991. This research is a component of the National Cooperative Testing Project of the Philippine Seedboard, aimed to evaluate the agronomic performances of corn cultivars newly developed by both public and private breeding institutions. The entries were compared against existing standard checks which include P3228, SMC-317 and SX-757 for hybrids and IPB Var 1 and IPB Var 2 for open-pollinated corn genotypes. Sixty one percent of the test hybrids outyielded the checks with yield advantage of 0.02-1.87 t/ha. IPB Var 1, a yellow check variety gave superior yield over yellow corn entries while IPB Var 2, a white corn check was markedly outyielded by IPB Var 5, Ap-4, IES Cn2 and USMARC 1888. These information provides documentation to support future location-specific variety evaluations
