Influence of storage containers on the viability of unshelled peanut (Arachis hypogaea) seeds
1991
Madriaga, M.L. | Tamayo, N.V.
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the different storage containers on the germinability, seed vigor, moisture content, and weight of unshelled peanuts under ordinary room storage condition. The different storage containers used were: tin can, cement bag, plastic sack, polyethylene plastic bag, and open container as control. Percent germination and seed vigor index decreased with the duration of storage regardless of packing materials used. Seeds stored in tin can significantly had high germination and seed vigor index compared with those in other containers. Moreover, it controlled moisture absorption from the environment up to a period of 6 months
