Increased nitrogen rates (120-600 kg N/ha) against the background of 90 kg P2O5 and 240 kg K2O per hectare were applied in the 20-year fertilizing experiment (1970-89) on a grassland on alluvial soil. High yields obtained after 10 years, mainly in treatments with the highest N rates, led to systematic exhaustion from soil magnesium, calcium, copper and zinc till a deficient content of these elements in soil and plants. Application of regenerative fertilization with above elements resulted in an increase of yields. In treatments without the supplementary regenerative fertilization the content of these elements in fodder in the period 1980-89 continued to decrease
