Heterogeneous nature of root as a habitat of microorganisms

Microbial cenoses of rhizosphere and rhizoplane are shown to differ from microbocenosis of soil. Moreover, different parts of a root show specific properties as places of microbial localization. Heterogenous nature of a root has a great effect on microflora of the rhizoplane; it has less effect on the rhizospheric microflora which is more influenced by events of succession in the surrounding soil. The biomass of fungi in rhizosphere, as in soil, is dominanting over biomass of bacteria and actinomycete mycelia; the biomass of fungi in rhizoplane compares with biomass of prokariots. The dynamics of number and composition of fungi and bacteria in rhizosphere and rhizoplane is mainly determined by the middle part of the root.
