The substrate influence on the nitrate content in radish, spinach, onion and lettuce was investigated in pot trials. Simultaneously the sites of nitrate accumulation in those vegetables were investigated. The nitrate content in vegetables cultivated on orthic luvisol was higher than in vegetables grown in mixed substrate consisting of 4.2 shares of orthic luvisol and 0.8 shares of peat. Radish leaves contained more nitrates than radish bulb. Skinny surface of radish cummulated more nitrates than endosperm. The highest nitrate level in bunch onion was in aboveroot part and the lowest in leaves. Spinach stalk content of nitrates was higher than that in spinach leaf blade.
