In the 2-year experiment production capabilities of sugar beet under non-irrigation and irrigation conditions were tested. The results follow: Production capability is very fluctuated in the conditions without irrigation and with low precipitation and their unequal distribution. The great differences were found in different years and in different varieties. The highest yield without irrigation during both years was achieved at Matador variety, during the 1st year (10.25 t.ha** (-1)) on the bases of yield of sugar beet 63.1 t.ha** (-1) and with content of sugar 19.8 %, and in the 2nd year 4.48 t.ha** (-1). The irrigation positively influenced the production capabilities of sugar beet. In 1992 the highest production of sugar was achieved at Matador variety 12.11 t.ha** (-1), with the yield of sugar beet root 97.4 t.ha ** (-1) - the sugar content 15.9 %, in the year 1992. The irrigation is important for the decreasing contents of natrium, kalium and nitrogen in sugar beet root and for the increase of sugar yields.
