Effect of auxin and cytokinin on multiple shoot formation of Dendrocalamus strictus Nees. in vitro

Multiple shoots formation in vitro from seedlings of Dendrocalamus strictus Nees. was affected by different cytokinins, namely; 6-benzylamino purine (BAP), 6-furfurylamino purine (kinetin) and 6(gamma, gamma-dimethylallylamino)-purine (2-iP), when each was incorporated into a murashige and Skoog (1962) medium separately. More shoots were produced when seedling were grown on a BAP supplemented medium than kinetin or 2-iP media. NAA incorporated into the medium stimulated more shoots than kinetin or 2-iP but less than BAP. The combination of NAA and BAP stimulated shoots less than BAP alone. In contrast, the number of shoots were increased in the medium containing NAA and kinetin or 2-iP.
