Experiment on the effect of rice yield due to the application of Azolla pinnata was carried out at the Kalasin Field Crop Experiment station, on Roi-et soil series during the period of June 1984-May 1985. The experimental design was RCB with 4 replications and 5 treatments. The rate of application was 50 kg/rai added at different times of the transplanting period and either ploughed-in or not ploughed-in as treatment. Results showed no significant difference between treatments. This may be due to the short time period not allowing sufficient time for Azolla to be incorporated into the soil, for there to be any immediate effect on yield. There was, however, a significant difference between number of tiller and panicle per hill among blocks.
