Ganoderma lucidum was reported to have efficacy againt hypertension. Klingesorn found three different varieties of G. lucidum at Pu Reor (G6) and Pukheow (G2, G3) and one unknown species (G4) at Khongsok in Southern part of Thailand. These fungi were studied on growth and cultivated in laboratory using G. lucidum (IFO) as control. The pharmacological effects of their components on hypertension were also examined. The dry fungi were chopped, soaked in hot water and homogenized at speed of 20,000 RPM for 30 minutes. All material were steamed at 120 deg. celsius for 20 minutes and the fibres were discarded. The filtrates were concentrated and intravenal injected to normal male Winstar rate at dose 50, 300 and 900 mg fungi/bd.wt. rats. The components in G. lucidum (IFO) caused depression of the blood pressure within 4 minutes. The effects of 50 and 300 mg/bd.wt. injection found no difference but lower on 900 mg/bd.wt. dose. The recovering time of 900 mg/bd.wt. dose also found to be longer than 300 mg/bd.wt. The component in G. lucidum (G.3, Pu Reor) also caused depression of the blood pressure. The 300 mg/bd.wt. injection effected more the pressure. The recovering times were very similar. The Ganoderma species from Khongsok has shown the most effective effects to the blood pressure. The 300 mg/bd.wt. injection or more cause depression at the blood pressure up to 40 % of the initial pressure and they took more than 3 hrs. to recover to normal. So the Ganderma species found in Southern part of Thailand contained the components that cause depression of blood pressure more effective than the G. lucidum.
