Effect of thiourea and surfactant on terminal bud break of mango (Mangifera indica) cv. Nam Dokmai Tawai
1987
Thanin Withayaphan
Thiourea at the concentrations of 0.25 and 0.50 %, with and without surfactant (Triton CS-7: Active ingredients: Blend of alkyl aryl polyethoxylate and sodium salt of alkyl sulfonatedalkylate 60 %) were sprayed to mature shoot of 5 year old mango trees (Mangifera indica L.) cv. Nam Dokmai Tawai in order to break dormancy of shoot buds and accelerate leaf bud burst. The experiment was conducted at the pomology Field Laboratory, Department of Horticulture, Kasetsart University, Kampangsaen Campus, Nakornprathom province during July 1988 to September 1988. Thiourea 0.25 % without surfactant could not induce bud break. The addition of surfactant could enhance the effect of thiourea. Thiourea 0.25 % with surfactant induced shoots development in 3 weeks with 65 % bud break while thiourea 0.50 % without surfactant gave 75 % bud break. The addition of surfactant to thiourea 0.50 % not only induced 100 % bud break within 2 weeks but also induced severe leaves drop. The length and number of leaves of new shoots in each treatment were not significant.
