15 alfalfa varieties were studied for the infection by some important diseases. Infection of low intensity occurred under field conditions on the following varieties: NS Banat ZMS II, Vernal and Rambler. Strong and medium leaf spot disease (Pseudopeziza medicaginis) occurred on the varieties Cancreep and Severna hibridna and Saranac, respectively. All varieties were infected by rust (Uromyces striatus). Fusarium disease was observed in traces on K-22, Severna hibridna, Vernal, Saranac, Cancreep and Nitranka. Verticillium albo-atrum was observed in traces and isolated on NS Banat ZMS II, NS Slavija, Lovcenac, K-22, Raduga, Nitranka, etc. Seed analysis showed either high or low percentage of the infection by Alternaria spp. on all alfalfa varieties.
