Discusses the role and functions of the Plant Protection Unit in the Ministry of Agriculture. Notes that the unit's mandate is to protect the island from the introduction of new pests and diseases and control those presently in existence. Discusses the devastating effects of the pink (Hybiscus) mealybug on the agricultural sector of the island of Grenada and the precautionary measures which must be taken by Antigua to prevent a similar occurence of the pest
