An investigation was undertaken to determine the fineness of white and Tossa jute fibre and their relationship to their commercial grades. The fineness was measured in terms of fibre diameter by Air Flow Method. The fibre diameter values obtained for white Jute (Corchorus capsularis) ranged from 37.02 microns to 37.74 microns and those of Tossa Jute ranged from 36.60 microns to 40.20 microns. Fineness was a very important factor in spinning quality but on relationship existed between the fineness and commercial grading of the fibre.
