Mechanized land preparation vs poverty alleviation [in Bangladesh]

It has been a popular idea that in the LDCs, mechanized land preparation, like any other form of mechanization would present a trade off between enhancing production of cereals and displacing human labour. But in our study we found out such trade off. On the contrary, it was found that use of power tiller for land preparation increases production, productivity and income in the case of major cereal crops yet not seriously displacing human labour. In the light of this finding, policy makers can think of increasing the availability of power tiller, and encourage farmers to adopt this which would rather help alleviating rural poverty.
