A field experiment was conducted with ten indigenous genotypes and two cultivars, namely var. D-154 var. CVL-1 of white jute to study the anatomical component characters in order to find out their contribution to yield potentiality. Wide range of coefficient of variation was observed in five characters. Correlation studies showed that bark thickness, number of phloem pyramids, number of fibre bundles in phloem pyramids, number of fibre bundle arcs in phloem pyramids and area of phloem pyramids were positively and significantly correlated with fibre yield in the genotypes 1832 and 1874. Genotypes, 1801 and 1913, showed strong association of the component characters with fibre yield except number of fibre bundle arcs in phloem pyramids. But in the genotype 1505 none of the attributes showed any significant association with fibre yield. Bark thickness showed highly significant correlation with phloem pyramid areas in almost all the genotypes and varieties except the genotype 1832. In genotypes 1322 and 1874, all characters showed significant association with fibre yield and also among themselves. Fibre yield and area of phloem pyramids in the genotype 1874 were significant.
