[Comparison of brome grass species and varieties]
1996
Mosimann, E. | Chalet, C. (Station federale de recherches en production vegetale de Changins, Nyon (Switzerland))
In the years 1993 to 1995, 14 varieties of 4 brome species were tested under the local conditions of 3 experimental fields. These trials confirm the value of Bromus sitchensis cultivated in association with red clover. With Lubro, two new varieties are recommended: Hakari and Bosir. Bromus catharticus and Bromus stamineus are well adapted to the association with alfalfa. They are not suitable for regions exposed to frost. We recommend Meribel (B. catharticus) for haylage and Gala (B. stamineus) for grazing management. Although supporting Swiss winter conditions in altitude, Bromus inermis is less productive than other grass species
