Variation of gliadins in wheat cultivars associated with seed survival and multiplication
1996
Stoyanova, S.D. (Institute for Plant Genetic Resources, Sadovo (Bulgaria))
Seeds of four old wheat cultivars were artificially aged. The intra-cultivar variation was determined by analyzing individual seeds using acid PAG electrophoresis. Biotypes as recognized by gliadin composition survived differently during the storage period. The loss of single seeds from the samples resulted in the loss of biotype groups, constituting undesirable selection and significant changes in the genetic composition. The common effect of seed ageing on the genetic integrity of seed accessions is described as a function of seed productivity and seed viability per biotype, the cultivar fractional composition, the number of multiplications, and the seed sample size
