[Further modification of levels of C18 unsaturated fatty acids in rapeseed by crossing low-linolenic acid cultivar with zero-erucic acid cultivar]

The modification of oleic acid (OA), linoleic acid (LA) and linolenic acid (LLA) levels is the secondary objective for fatty acid composition improvement in Brassica napus L. In this study, the possibility of developing rapeseed cultivars with higher OA or LA and lower LLA content was examined by transfer of genes controlling lower LLA content in seeds into conventional cultivars with zero-erucic acid content. It was found that the inheritance of OA and LLA content was controlled by a set of main genes and the inheritance of LA content controlled by 2-3 set of main genes. Statistical analyses showed that there were significant or highly significant negative correlations among OA, LA and LLA levels. Stringent negative selections for LLA level for four generations resulted in some lines with LLA less than 4 percent, and with OA more than 70 percent or LA over 25 percent
