From 1986 to 1990, sorghum germplasms maintained in Henan Province of China were evaluated for their tolerance to drought, cold, saline-alkali and infertile soils, and resistance to diseases and pest insects. Quality analysis was also conducted. The results showed that 29 varieties were cold-tolerant at seedling stage, 8 varieties were resistant to head smut with an incidence of below 12.9, 9 varieties were resistant to snout moth larvae, 80 varieties were tolerant to infertile soils. Through quality analysis, 7 varieties with protein content over 14, 14 varieties with lysine content of sample over 2.6, 22 varieties with lysine of protein content over 0.3 and 19 varieties with tannic acid below 0.1 were identified. Moreover, there were 12 germplasms with 2 or more desirable characters, and 2 germplasms with 3 desirable characters
