Epizootology of trichinellosis
1995
Jaervis, T. (Estonian Agricultural University, Tartu (Estonia). Faculty of Veterinary Science)
Consumption of wild boar meat not undergone veterinary check-up has been the source of human trichinellosis. The prevalence of invasion in wild boars is 0,4-5 per cent. The first finding of Trichinella Sp. in domestic pig in Estonia is discussed. T. britovi has been diagnosed in domestic pig, T. spiralis in farm arctic fox Alopex lagopus and rat Rattus norvegicus, T.sp. in cat in the same district. Infected rats, cats and furbearing animals are important vectors of porcine trichinellosis. Feeding raw carbage, hog and rats cannibalism should be taken into consideration as the modes of transmission for trichinellosis
