Since land reform was started in Latvia number of state farms and share holdings has decreased more than three times on 01.01.1995. Number of private land owners was registered more than 75.000 on 01.07.1995. Although land owners have different position that sort of farmers' age, skills, land area, soil ferility, owned buildings, machinery, number of animals, etc., there are two common problems having a strong influence on farms development chance in Latvia. Main problem is state uncapability to subsidize thoroughly agricultural production to increase ability for agricultural food-stuffs to compete in the free market with more subsidized foreign products. As a result considerable decrease in sowing area, number of cattle, mineral fertilizers and pests input in agriculture occurs during last years. Alternative solution suitable for farmers in present situation is the establishment of environmentally sound agriculture production as a lifestyle
