The effect of cypress aphid on Cupressus lusitanica orchards in Kenya and Tanzania
1994
Obiri, J.A.F. | Giathi, G. | Massawe, A.
Five seed orchards of Cupressus lusitanica (Miller) grown in Kenya and Tanzania were studied to investigate the effect of cypress aphid Cinara cupressi (Buckton) on resistance and growth of the trees. Thirty clones were screened in the orchards to select the best and remove the poorest. Clones of Ugandan origin showed the best aphid tolerance and those of Kenyan origin the poorest. The best overall clones were K213, K195 and K194. Correlation studies between aphid damage and growth characters, height and diameter showed no significant relationship. The relationship of espacement of the orchard to aphid infestation also showed no correlation
