Four commercial rice varieties KS282, IR6, Basmati385 and Basmati370 (fine grain) were transplanted from 1st June to 1st August at fortnight intervals to see sowing time effect on crude oil and protein contents in rice bran. Paddy samples were milled to a uniform degree of whiteness at ten percent moisture content. Rice bran was analyzed for crude protein and oil. The protein contents in bran were higher (12 %) at 1st June transplanting which decreased significantly at 16th July planting (10.1%). The higher crude oil (18.2%) was obtained from 1st July transplanting followed by 16th June (18.0%). The lower oil contents were estimated from all the varieties transplanted on 1st August. The protein contents in defatted bran were 2 to 3 percent higher than in raw bran at all transplanting dates. Protein and crude oil contents in Basmati385 and KS282 were significantly higher than Basmati370 and IR6. respectively.
