Our experiences in barley (Hordeum vulgare) breeding on plant height reduction and increasing grain yield

3334 domestic winter barley lines were grown in a total of 187 field experiments on a continuous basis 1966-90. The most common barley cultivars were included as controls. These trials were conducted in brown soil (cambisol) in five replications (experimental plot: 5 sq.m) in the field of the Osijek Agricultural Inst. Barley was usually sown in the first week of October and harvested at the end of June or the beginning of July
