The aim of the investigations was to determine the effect of the leaf area index (LAI) on the spectral changes in solar irradiance in greenhouse tomato cultivation. Besides the basic optical properties (reflectance, transmittance, and absorptance) of tomato leaves were determined. The obtained results demonstrated that leaves of higher plants are structurally and functionally well disposed to absorption of solar irradiation, especially in the PAR range to reflection and transmission of irradiation, mainly in the near infrared region
