Studies on the effect of acid precipitation on the decomposition of hornbeam, oak and pine litter were carried out under natural conditions in a Pino-Quercetum association. In all the litters studied, acidification is responsible for quicker release of P, K, Ca and Mg and for a certain accumulation of Fe and Al. Calcium is released with particular intensity. Changes in humification lead to an increase in bitumens content and a decrease in the content of humic and fulvic acids
