The content of chromium in soils was between 1.9 and 61.4 mg/kg for the topsoils and between 1.3 and 58.5 mg/kg for the humous horizons. The geometric mean (GM) for chromium was 19 mg/kg for both depths. The observed ranges of Ni concentrations were relatively wide and varied from 1.5 to 42.4 mg/kg (GM=11.1 mg/kg) for the surface samples and from 2.0 to 41.4 mg/kg (GM=13.9 mg/kg) for deeper layers. On their base geometric mean and geometric deviation values 95 percent expected ranges for chromium and nickel were calculated. The amounts of Cr and Ni in black earths are connected mainly with the genesis of parent material and relatively small anthropopression
