The aim of the work was to determine the effect of agricultural use of the former forest soils on accumulation of organic matter and properties of humus compounds, such as: humification degree, ratio of humic acids to fulvic acids, content of humines. The cultivation of the former forest soils effected accumulation and transformation of organic matter in humus horizons. An agricultural use of soils causes decrease in the total content of organic carbon, but increase in the content of organic matter strongly bounded with the mineral part of soil
