Variability of a number of growth characters has been studied: chlorophyll content and photophosphorylation activity of chloroplasts under varying conditions of plant growth (temperature, illumination, photoperiod and mineral supply level) early in the development of eight spring wheat cultivars. The data obtained were processed by the method of multidimensional statistical analysis, principal components' methods included. Adaptive variability of physiological characteristics was found to be connected with the nature, force and duration of environmental factors' effect as well as with varietal and ecological belonging of the plants given. The classification by the peak value of variability of individual characters is given, they being subdivided into the groups of slightly variable, medium-variable and hightly variable ones. Biological features of plastic cultivars noted for a high degree of stability in individual characters under varying environment conditions are established. Based on the results obtained some criteria for wheat samples' differentiation with respect to ecological plasticity level have been proposed
