Ichthyofauna of submontane section of the Nitra River (Slovakia). 2. Parameters related to canalization
1995
Stranai, I. (Vysoka Skola Polnohospodarska, Nitra (Slovakia). Katedra Hydinarstva a Malych Hospodarskych Zvierat)
Specific composition, abundance of occurrence, ichthyomass, and available fish yield in the submontane section of the Nitra river, Slovakia, from the point of view of the river flow regulation are compared. The parameters obtained during observation of 2 different river sections do not favour the original non-canalized flow. The original canalization appears to have good conditions for creating a high stock of fish. This is influenced by the dam where canalization in fact begins (evaluated canalization section is 400 m away from the dam, and its influence is shown in the obtained parameters). The obtained results, however, show that canalization negatively affects the number of species, average weight per fish, the number of preferred fish of desirable fishing parameters, and, in the last year, also ichthyomass.
