Tendencies of cost development in edible legumes production

Analysis done in a set of 31 agricultural enterprises in Slovakia points at different cost development tendencies in edible legumes production (pea, lentil, bean, soybean) in 1988-1992. Total cost per hectar had been decreasing with the exception of bean. Costs decreased in calculation per ton of pea and lentil and increased for beans and soybeans. Regarding individual costs, only wages were increased for all crops. Fertilizer consumption, on the contrary, decreased. Other costs had an ambiguous development, increasing for one crop and decreasing for another. Mentioned development tendencies are related to the complicated economic situation in Slovakia's agricultural enterprises. All national economy-average wages of workers have been increased, while costs of fertilizers, fuels, energy, plant protection chemicals and other inputs are being increased too. All these circumstances are immediately reflected in the cost developments in the growing of different farm crops.
