Effects of certain accelerated harvesting means on S.J. 5 soybean seed yield and quality
1990
Nusara Chongcharoen
S.J. 5 soybean seed reached physiological maturity or attained maximum dry weight 49 days after 50 percent flowering, while having the moisture content of 43-49 percent. The seed harvested five days before physiological maturity or 10 days before havest maturity gave a lower germination percentage than those harvested at physiological maturity. They still met the DOAE's contracted seed standard. The seed harvested at physiological maturity did not differ from those harvested at harvest maturity in either germination, vigor, percent of good seed, seed weight, or total yield. The former, were much higher in moisture content. Application of paraquat made harvesting three days earlier. The desiccant did not affect seed germination, seed vigor, percent of good seed, seed weigth, or seed yield. Planting 21 days earlier resulted in only 9 days earlier in harvesting date. Both plantings gave similar results in terms of total yield, percent of good seed, percent of green seed germination and seed vigor. The first crop, produced larger seed than did the second crop.
