Appropriate variety, plant density and rate and time of nitrogen fertilization for baby corn production in Amphoe Kamphaeng Saen, Changwat Nakhon Pathom [Thailand]
1991
Phadung Ochapong
For Tambon Huaymontong location Thai Super Sweet Composite no. 1 DMR variety yielded the highest baby corn production eventhough it was not statistically different from Baby Corn Composite no.1 DMR and Pacific Baby Corn no.1. Regardless of non significant difference on baby corn yield among plant densities, the result tended to suggest planting of 2 plants per hill at the recommended plant density especially when field practices and cost of seed were also taken into consideration The baby corn yield and agronomic characteristics varied with nitrogen fertilizer rates. The baby corn yield and the marginal rate of return were highest with an application of 40 kilograms nitrogen per rai. For Tambon Tunglooknok location. Thai Super Sweet Composite no.1 DMR variety produced the highest baby corn production eventhough it was not statistically different from Baby Corn Composite no.1 DMR, Suwan 3, G-5423, Pacific Baby Corn no.1 and Pioneer 3226 (81E07). The baby corn yield and agronomic characteristics were different among plant densities. Two plants per hill were recommended for planting especially when field practices and cost of seed were also taken into consideration. An application of 40 kilograms nitrogen per rai yielded the highest baby corn production and the marginal rate of return as well.
