Water quality control for trickle irrigation system using sand filter
1990
Krisada Dungosintri
Three sizes of sand were chosen (0.50, 1.09 and 1.50 mm). The sand was screened through the sieves. The experiment was done with different thicknesses of each size of sand from 50, 80 and 100 cm respectively. For each size of sand and at each thickness, different rates of filtration ranging from 40, 75, 110 and 145 liters per minute were tested. The initial pressure used in the test run began at 2.5 Kg/square cm but at the end of the experiment it drops down by 0.25 Kg/square cm. The experiment was done in order to determine the effectiveness of filtration through each sand size and at each thickness, based on the quality of water obtained and the length of filtration period. Method of filter backwashing was also studied in order to determine whether, after filtration, the backwashing could be done with ease or with difficulty and how much did it cost in form of expense, time and water quantity.
