Effect of coating materials on ripening and dehiscence of durians cv. Chanee
1990
Siriphun Sriyook
Fruits were harvested at 110 days after anthesis, 1 % Semperfresh reduced weight loss and fruit dehiscence, delayed flesh firmess loss and delayed the decrease in starch content, and increase in soluble solids content and increase in soluble solids content better than other coating materials. There was no significant difference in peel thickness, flesh and seed color of fruits treated with different coating materials. Durians, at 103 days and 110 days after anthesis, were sprayed with Semperfresh at 1 % concentration give durians' shelf life to 9 days while non-treated durians could be kept for only 3-4 days. Durians at different maturity responded to coating treatment differently, 110 days durians were more pronounced at higher concentrations of Semperfresh but this was not found in 103 days durians. Conversion of starch to sugar in 103 days durians decreased with increasing Semperfresh concentration, but the response was similar among different concentrations in 110 days durians. Taste and texture of treated durians were acceptable at the end of 9 days storage period.
