Numerical simulation of corn drying in a fixed bed

Results of numerical simulation of grained and/or coarse-grained materials drying process in a fixed bed are shown. Mathematical model describing unsteady simultaneous one-dimensional heat and mass transfer between gas phase and dried material during drying process in a fixed bed has been developed. Heat and mass transfer between gas phase and material are calculated using expressions for a fixed bed, well known from literature. Drying process inside dried material (moisture transport) is calculated according to modified Luikov's theory. On the basis of available experimental data a very successful verification of mathematical model was done. The calculations in the case of the corn grain with and/or without the corncob were carried out and shown in this paper.
