The main aim of this thesis is to present the chronological development, to discuss and to test different existing models in predicting dry matter consumption in dairy cows. As a basis for this work different written sources have been used. Testing of existing models has been made by stimulating the input data. In the same time, different models have been tested comparing the real experimental results. Final conclusion could be that it is best to use models based on weeks of lactation, Kertz et al. (1991), Vadiveloo and Holmes (1979), or NRC model (1989), which is very flexible and after predicting dry matter consumption it calculates all necessary nutrients.
