Five varieties of castor bean were used for diallel crossing, excluding reciprocals. The components of genetic variability were analysed. Both components of genetic variability, additive (D) and dominant (H1 and H2) were included in the genetic control of all three traits studied. However, considering the number of seeds per plant, the additive component was higher than the dominant while for 1000-seed weight and seed yield per plant, the dominant component was higher than the additive. Partial dominance and superdominance are demonstrated for the inheritance of the number of seeds per plant and for 1000-seed weight and seed yield per plant, respectively. The parents had more dominant genes for the number of seeds and seed yield per plant and more recessive genes for 1000-seed weight.
