Effect of nitrogen and temperature in the phase of grain formation and filling on the number of grains per spike of winter wheat

Milosev, D. (Poljoprivredni fakultet, Novi Sad (Yugoslavia))
Effect of various doses of nitrogen and temperature in the phase of grain formation and filling on the number of grains per primary and secundary spike of winter wheat was studied in a two-year trial in Mitscherlich's pots. Nitrogen had very positive effect on this yield component. Higher doses of nitrogen, under the conditions of intensive productive tillering (increased number of spikes per pot) brought to the decrease of average number of grains of primary spikes. The application of various doses of nitrogen had no statistically significant effect on the number of grains per secundary spike. The studied factor of temperature in the phase of grain formation and filling did not show significant effect neither on the number of grains on primary nor on secondary spikes.
