Phenotypic variability for the productive tillering, spike length, and number of spikelets per spike has been studied for three vegetation periods (1990/91, 1991/92, and 1992/93) using the sample of 28 world-wide wheat varieties. Summarizing the results, it could be stated that genetic variance played a greater role in total phenotypic variability for the productive tillering and the spike length. Environmental variability, as well as, the interaction year/variety participated greatly in the variation of phenotype for the number of spikelets per spike.
