Viktor - a new variety of spring malting barley

A new variety of spring two-rowed malting barley Viktor was tested within the network of the Approval Yugoslav Federal Commission in the period 1990-1992. In relation to the standard Novosadski 294 variety, Viktor variety had yield higher by 588 kg/ha and stem shorter by 20 cm. Its disease resistance was the same as with the standard variety. Mechanical properties of grain were quite better than those of Novosadski 294 variety. Germination was 93 and fine extract content was 78.9, that is, somewhat lower in relation to standard values. Malt modification was excellent, fine/course difference was 1.8, viscosity 1.47, mPas 8.6, Kolbach index was 53.1 and Hartong VZ 45 deg C 58.8.
