Genetic variability of quantitative traits in F2 synthetic population of maize (Zea mays L.)
1995
Drinic, G. (Institut za kukuruz "Zemun Polje", Beograd - Zemun (Yugoslavia))
The aim of the study was to determine effects of the additional recombination on the observed parameters and frequency of favourable alleles in the F2 maize population. Obtained results point out that mean values of studied traits were not significantly changed due to the additional recombination. Genetic variance for grain yield and the number of lodged and broken plants was not significantly changed, while genetic variance for grain yield components and morphological traits was significantly decreased by the additional recombination. Also, the lack of the correlation between grain yield and 1000-kernel weight is detected in the recombined F2 population. According to obtained parameters it could be concluded that additional recombinations have a limited effect on "quality" improvement of the F2 maize population.
