A study of some possibilities for the diagnosis of thyroid gland hypertrophy in kids

Experiments were conducted with 30 kids with different degrees of goitre development from both sexes, aged 40-50 days and weighting 8-10 kg and 6 kids from a healthy region in respect to water nitrate content and to goitre in humans. Blood samples were taken twice at an interval of 30 days in the period March to May, 1994 and 1995. In the kids from the endemic regions and from the region with high nitrate content in the water were found considerably lower mean value of free thyroxin - 53,8 pmol/l, protein bound iodine - 188 gJ, total cholesterol - 1.35 mmol/J, triglycerides 0.55 mmol/l, vitamin A - 9.33 UJ/100 cm3 as compred to those in the control group: fT4 - 80.7 pmol/l, PBJ - 5.45 gJ, vit.A - 25.5 UI/100 cm3, total cholesterol - 0.81 mmol/l and triglycerides - + 0.31 mmol/l.
