Trichinella species in Estonia

In 1977-1978 Trichinella species of Estonian wild animals were identified in the laboratory of Helmintology, headed by prof S.N Boev, at the Institute of Zoology if Kazakh Academy of Science. From 1992 up to now Trichinella species of Estonian wild and domestic animals have identified in Trichinella Reference Centre in Rome in the laboratory of Parasitology, headed by Dr. E. Pozio. During this period muscle samples of 14 animals: 6 racoon dogs, 2 wild boars, 1 red fox, 1 domestic pig, 2 blue foxes and 1 brown rat have been sent for identification. Blue foxes and 1 brown rat were from fur-bearing animal farm. Species were identified by RAPD method
