Results of the fermentation and feeding of red clover silage
1996
Tamm, U. | Sarand, R.-J. (Estonian Agricultural Univ., Tartu (Estonia))
During the experiment the influences of wilting and different additives on the ensilability of red clover herbage were investigated. The biological additives Silomeister, AIV-2 containing formic acid and Superben produced from of benzoic acid were used. The in-silage losses during the fermentation of wet silage were 2.7 times higher than fermentation of wilted silage. The highest losses were caused by liquid separation. Wilted silage contained less crude protein and more crude fibre than wet silage. Due to the higher buffering capability of the dry mass its pH value remained higher. The number of microorganisms was greatest in silage with Silomeister. Additive AIV-2 inhibits proteolytic processes, decreases the fermentation of sugars and causes higher acidity of the silage mass. Superben enables fermentation of silage with high aerobic stability
