Genotypes x environment interaction and yield stability of maize cultivars
1996
Benti Tolesa | Gezahegne Bogale | Asefa Afeta (IAR, Addis Abeba (Ethiopia))
Twelve elite broad based populations and three hybrids of high yield potential were evaluated to determine yield stability and pattern of response of genotypes across environments. F-test for the combined data indicated that year x variety, location x variety and year x location x variety were all highly significant for yield, plant height, ear height, number of cobs/plant and lodging percent. Alemaya composite, EAH-75, Beletech, NSCM41, Abo-Bako, Guto and Katumani had the largest regression coefficients suggesting that these varieties are responsive to more favorable growing conditions. H625 which was the top yielder had the lowest regression coefficients; while Bako composite, KCC, KCB and Jima-Bako (c4) had nearly similar average grain yield and a regression coefficient of unity. These varieties are the most stable in performance across environments.
