In the present study, data from 680 farrowings, during one year, were utilized. Farrowings were synchronized by prostaglandin injections and the sows were fed ad-libitum two times daily during lactation. Mean litter size at birth and at weaning were 11.24 +/-0.14 and 8.85 +/-0.23 pigs, respectively, while the mean litter weaning weight at 23.51 +/-0.14 days was 60.6 +/-2.9 kg. The sow daily feed intake during lactation was 5.34 +/-0.28 kg. External air temperatures had significant effects on sow feed intake during lactation and litter weaning weight. Average feed intake fluctuated from 4.6 to 6.4 kg daily and litter weaning weight from 55.7 to 67.8 kg during summer and winter, respectively. Sow feed intake during lactation and litter weaning weight were also affected by the age of the sow.
